Weight Loss and Serving Sizes
Serving sizes have a direct correlation with weight loss and weight control. You've all heard the phrase "It's not what you eat rather how much you eat." What is a Serving Size? According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) a "serving" is a unit of measure used to describe the amount of food recommended from each food group. It is the amount of food listed on the Nutrition Facts panel on packaged food or the amount of food recommended in the Food Guide Pyramid and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. WebMD in collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic state, "The best way to determine the amount of food in a given serving is to look at the Nutrition Facts label and measure it out. Although this may not be practical or that much fun, if you are able to take the time, you will soon be able to "eyeball" the amount of food and know whether there is too much or too little" WebMD Portion Control and Weight Loss article.
